When The Wind Blows

The wind in Auckland can be strong enough to whisk your umbrella out of your hand. My umbrella didn't "fly" away, but the hinges
gave way, it now looks like funny and, no, it doesn't even look cute. This happens to be a gift from my former flattie, this umbrella is still priceless thus the photo. I have just been to Foodtown to do some groceries, and now my groceries are still in the trunk... so is my dinner. I have to wait 'till this rain slows down to keep my little self from getting drenched. A friend of mine mentioned once, wind in Wellington is much much stronger. Bright side... I love Auckland! And the sound of the special alarm clock makes every morning a good morning. Perhaps, people should find a special thought in the morning, keep that thought and let it spread through the whole day. The wind blows hard, but it can never blow your special thoughts away.

There seems to be a lot going in these day and these tend to coincide with school holidays in the country. For instance... Batman the Dark Knight, coming to haunt the big screens at last. I am booked! I go on friday evening, come rain on thunder!

News from this little corner

For me, 33 degrees is normal and 8 degrees is just plain cold. That was what the temp was in Auckland during my prized weekend. I went about the days chilled but nonetheless alright. Despite the hailstorms, it was a busy weekend the Phones were ringing and I was booked! I took a photo of the little bits of ice, they appear tiny on the wet pavement, it would have been a better photo if the pavement was still dry. I never seen hail before so excuse my fascination.

As I have heard, it will be 2 degrees this evening (I can't say I am excited about it), fortunately, the gas bottle is refilled and the gas heater is now set on full. From previous experience, this 9kg bottle will last a short 2 weeks, and then I will have to go to BP, where I have a discount card for LPG refills. For those who don't know about it, well, it's high time you know. Which reminds me, petrol prices have increased again, this time by NZD6 cents. Where does all the money for petrol go? Emails informed me that *they* make ice in the desert now. I don't feel the crunch yet because I don't really drive to work as it doesn't make sense when work is only a block away from home. But my mates at work have all the news and yes, they often feel like they should have filled up the car yesterday.

As in the previous entries, the love life has been extremely rough but it is getting better. Further on I should be back on track soon.

At the SkyTower at last

I can't believe I have moved to new zealand and i've been here for seven months already... AND have not been to the SkyTower all that time. I've sat on a bus stop right across it many times and I still didn't even know where the main entrance is. Finally, just this last weekend, along with a friend of mine who has been there, I stepped into the SkyTower for the very first time. Well, it was only at the first 4 levels though, but it was good enough for me.

It is a fairly impressive, touristic place with a few cafes, restaurants, bars, a theatre, a casino, a
souvenir shop and a couple of adventure facilities. It is indeed designed to be a tourist destination on its own and a destination new zealanders can be proud of. We in our long coats walked in there, like tourists, to check out their famous entertainment facilities. Currently the SkyWalk is priced at $115 and the SkyJump, whoa... a staggering $195 . If you want to do both... 360 Walk and then JUMP then they have a price for you too, $240. I thought, OOOOH these daredevil stuff are scary, look at the prices and you're already falling. But I guess that has to be, because they have to maintain all those stuff to keep you from walking and jumping into the afterlife rather untimely.

When we, the humble tourists pondered on the prices, we decided that our "pocket money" must stay in the pocket for now. It is nice though, we stood there and watched a live video of the current jumper. And then learned that you get a cd of your entire jump, you get to watch yourself and realize either how gorgeously daring (... or hilarious) you looked. haha. I can already imagine myself.
